The cover of my second novel, The Only Survivor. We used a photograph of a mountain range in North America and made it almost unrecognisable. The purple tint on the clouds and matt black for the hills has a striking effect. White on black for the lettering also leaps off the page. This cover looks fantastic in HD.

This is the cover of my third novel. Again, the illustration is taken from one of my sister's oil paintings. The painting must be digitally scanned to do this, it is preferable to have it done professionally. The title lettering has been thickened to make it more striking.

The cover of my fifth novel, Memorial for the Dead. This was something of a departure for us as I had taken the photograph myself. The clouds have been darkened slightly and the purple of the thistles enhanced. The grey-white fading of the author name gives this cover a very professional finish. It is special to me as the photograph is of the Kilbrannan Sound between Arran and Kintyre, which is where the novel is actually set. Authenticity always helps!

This is the cover of my short story which accompanies the series. We are really pleased with it, although it was probably an indulgence! The cover image is an illustration and the rights were quite pricey, but we loved the effect of the car lights. It was exactly what we were looking for. I also like the stars in the sky behind the author name. Again, this cover is terrific in HD - on a Kindle Fire for example.

My new novel, The Ghost Of Marchmont Hall. This photograph, of a clock tower in Harrogate, Yorkshire struck me immediately as perfect for the cover of the book. It was just as I had envisaged the clock tower at Marchmont Hall School.

The Ghost of Marchmont Hall. This time it's a ghostly mystery that Imogen and Hugh have to puzzle out. But there's plenty of sleuthing, just the same. The Imogen and Hugh Croft Mysteries.

This updated cover for The Woman Who Vanished was an attempt to create a more unified, brand image for the books. I like the simplicity of purple on black

Another of the updated covers. The red stands out very well against the white lightening flashes.

Photograph courtesy of Transformer 18 flickr.com. I tried something new here with the sloping writing. I like the informality of the image - as if it's a piece of graffiti on the wall of the tunnel.

Background photograph courtesy of istockphoto. The church was perfect for the theme of Memorial For The Dead. I love the light behind the altar. This meant that the writing of my name had to be in gold.
