©British Pathé. At 14, Princess Elizabeth made her first broadcast to the public to send her best wishes to the children who had been evacuated from Britain to America, Canada, and elsewhere. Princess Margaret joined her to wish all the evacuee children goodnight. London was being destroyed by bombing raids and even Buckingham palace wouldn't be spared the wrath of enemy aircraft. Britain was in a state of crisis and Princess Elizabeth had her first taste of addressing her one-day subjects.
