A clever poster by Hans Unger for the British Railways London Midland Region. I like the use of the umbrella and the grey to suggest rain, with the eye drawn into the comfort of the cheery train - the carriage is in the carmine red and cream livery used by the Railways at the time, commonly known as 'blood and custard'!

Retro New York Travel Poster
After a recent visit to New York in November 2010 I became inspired to create a travel poster that would summerise our experience and also optimise New York. I opted for an image we had taken of the Statue of Liberty, who along with the Empire State Building and the Roccefeller Center, was one of the main high lights of our trip. I can't wait to go back to New York but in the mean time this poster will serve to remind us of the fantastic time we had there. Available from Redbubble…

The Boston Public Library's Print Department is home to more than 350 vintage travel posters, most dating from the 1920s-1940s, the “Golden Age of Travel.” Railways opened up America and Europe, luxe ocean liners introduced elegance into overseas voyages, and drivers took to the road in record numbers in their new automobiles.
