Maharaja Jagatjit Singh’s penchant for everything European was to extend to the sartorial choices of his wife, who is seen wearing a tightly corseted gown and long silk gloves.
Gwalior's last maharaja, Jivajirao Scindia, nattily dressed in a Western suit, poses with his wife Vijayaraje (the future Jan Sangh-BJP leader), who's attired in a French chiffon sari with an Indian brocade border, in this 1945 picture shot at Mumbai's Hamilton Studios.
