My Classroom

So, I just realized that I never posted my classroom pictures. Yes, school started in August and it is now almost February...better late than never? This is probably the first year that I am truly happy with the way my room turned out. Last year I was in Montana the week before school so I felt rushed to get things ready, and every year before that I've had to switch rooms, which is always chaos. Here is the finished product. Rainy Day Boredom Buster: DIY Story in a Bag

We are starting to pull out some old standby activities for the upcoming stretch of indoor activities we will inevitably need. While giving our son’s closet a much needed overhaul, we repurposed some of those “treasures” that needed a new reason for being by making a few Story Bags.OK, so maybe the top photo doesn’t look like much of a transformation but after dredging through the heap of tiny toy-thingys we were able to make much better use of many of the items.

Anchor Charts

I never really used anchor charts and if I did they were just plain old boring. I never realized they were boring until I discovered pinterest. I thought "Man, my anchor charts are blaaah, compared to these!" So the creative person in me said "Move over sista, it's time for the real star to shine!" HAHAHA I really don't think THAT highly of myself, maybe just a little. This year our school mandated that we have anchor charts displayed in our classroom AND it needed to be student interacted…

Writing Helpers

I posted about this earlier, but I wanted to share it again because I have had several people ask about it. I created this fun little poster to help my students remember the difference between a "b" and a "d." I like to make things real for them so we all stand up and act out our little saying. "b's have bellies and d's don't" We pat our bellies and then pat our backsides! :) This cute little poster, Those Crazy b's and d's, is available on TPT in PDF or JPeg format. My kids crack up every…

Theme of the Week: Fairy Tales

My girls don't go to formal preschool, but I like to create a sort of preschool-like routine at home. We have what we call "Theme of the Week". Here is how our "Theme of the Week" works. So each week we have a topic we focus on in addition to a letter, number, working on shapes, colors, talking about weather and the calendar, etc. So this week the theme is: FAIRY TALES The nice thing about this theme is there is no shortage of books about the topic. In fact, because there are SO many books…
