AROUND THE HOUSE // Harvesting the 1914 Simons Brick

Seventeen years ago we undertook a major remodeling project in our home. We redid the entire back half of the first floor which included the kitchen, two bathrooms, the family room, my office and the back porch and patio area. We extended the family room out the back and added a covered porch and brick patio...

I am sitting on our back porch enjoying this new space with one big silly grin 😁 on my face. I have just a few things to finish on the back porch remodel that I hope to find tomorrow morning at the Ventura Antique Flea Market. (Did I mention this is my favorite flea market anywhere???) Meanwhile I thought I would share one of the photos I took last week of our kitchen. At least it was clean then ... #simplelivingsaturday #whitecottagecountrybarn #kitchencabinetlove #farmhouseroundup…

I have spent a lot of time in the kitchen this week getting ready for some very fun blog posts! The other night I was up until 3:30am trying to finish a project for next Friday's blog. What was I thinking? (Ok. Maybe jet lag had something to do with it) I guess I just wanted to get it all done before I head out on a plane this afternoon. (I know, can you believe I am traveling again?) I am teaching a Marketing Boot Camp for Artists in Atlanta next week and I am so excited . Let's just see...

Oh how I can't wait to get back to this view!! The only thing that separates me and my kitchen is a 14 hour flight! Eek!! What's your best remedy to pass time on a plane (with no wifi)? In need of a lot of help with that one! #freshflowersfriday #farmhousekitchen #farmhousesigns

I know this is silly but whenever I travel for a long time I miss cooking! We have eaten in a lot of spectacular restaurants in New Zealand and the food has been wonderful. (Fortunately I am bringing home some very tasty recipes!) But there is something about cooking in my kitchen that brings me absolute joy. I love cooking dinner and get to cook about five nights a week. What's your favorite thing to cook? #my100yearoldhome

Today was such a beautiful day in Southern California. It was 92 degrees here which is a bit warm for April! But we are leaving on a big trip on Monday night and it's a bit cooler where we are heading ... have a fabulous weekend everybody. Relax. Enjoy. Celebrate. #my100yearoldhome

This is my favorite room in our home. It's the gathering point, the nucleus, the heart ❤️of our home. And it's where my husband has lived since 1969. (We bought this house from his parents in 1998). I just love it. And. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ I am so happy to announce that @taylor.beagle is the lucky winner of the Rae Dunn FLOUR Canister. Congrats! DM me your address. Next week I am giving a double piece set! Check back to see what it is!!!! #my100yearoldhome #loveofcountryhouses

Today was such a wonderful day. My older sis is here and I just love when we can hang out and do "sister" stuff. Now we are heading over to my parents to have a fun dinner. Love days like today‍❤️‍ #my100yearoldhome

I am still sick and not sure how I managed to capture my kitchen looking so clean this morning. Of course if I turned around my camera the family room isn't looking so great ... one thing for sure is that I love having lots of fresh flowers in the house! #my100yearoldhome

This week has been one of the craziest weeks of the year. Yesterday I spent the entire day running around like a madwoman from one appointment to another. I finally sat down at 10:20pm (after hosting book club) to write the show notes for my podcast. I just began the seventh year of my weekly podcast and I always prepare show notes in advance. Fortunately I finished them just before I fell asleep at my computer. Part of my craziness this week is due to a very exciting project I am launching…

Wishing my kitchen looked a little more like this and a little less crazy with the dinner party that's about to happen! Dinner parties are one of my favorite ways to spend a Friday night... I'm curious, what's your favorite thing to do on a Friday?
