House of the Mosaic Atrium - AD79eruption

House of the Mosaic Atrium - At the rear of the atrium is a large room of unusual size and form. Square pillars on the N and S sides of the room divide it in the pattern of a nave and 2 side aisles. Above the pillars rises a 2nd story w/clerestory windows reminiscent of the classical basilica layout. Given its position in place of the tablinum, it must have been used as a public reception area
