This is a typical "delicioso coco helado," or delicious coconut ice cream street vendor. The flavor is never coconut, but rather cherry or mango. When you walk the streets of Washington Heights you constantly hear old ladies yelling, "coco cherry, coco cherry." One of my favorite memories of The Heights are those sweet ladies and their make shift vending carts. Often their carts would be shopping carts with a huge block of ice in it that they would shave by hand.

This is Anahie. She is called Anna and is from Albania. She lives in Washington Heights in the 190's. I met her in Lincoln Square at Starbucks drinking from a fancy cup. She was going to the Opening Night Gala at Lincoln Center - Metropolitan Opera at 6:30PM...stopped at Starbucks to relax first. She said that when she goes to Starbucks she asks them for coffee in this mug because it makes her happy and when something makes you happy you should do it! My kind of woman!
