Had my first Graphic Design Principles our tutors Nicki and Stacey explained our project "Sensing the city" and the brief which tells us to create a series of data visualisations communicating your space. My initial thoughts on this project is that it sounds exciting but also challenging. We then had our first lecture on "information is beautiful" which  showed us how to explain our surroundings in detail to someone.

We then had our first lecture on "information is beautiful" which showed us how to explain our surroundings in detail to someone.

For the afternoon session of lesson one we had to chose our own space for our project to document our surroundings for example, people, sounds, smells, habits. I chose the Greenwich Maritime Museum as it has a lot of things happening for example; exhibitions. This means from my view point I am able to see people coming in and out of the museum and is going to be interesting to document.

We then had to go back and to Greenwich University and talk over our ideas and work with our tutors and the group. This overall, was an excellent day as it got us out there exploring and thinking of ideas.

After some feedback from one of my tutors I was able to do another attempt at task 2 which showed different positions but could be seen as to literal and not enough movement I am going to see about using carbon paper.

This was my idea for " create a series of images that create a narrative or story." I chose to document people coming in the museum and which direction they go. I found this task ok however, I could of focused on one individual person instead of a group of different people.

Had my second lecture on "Image-ing"which was aimed to show us "how to explore the variety of techniques that you could draw upon to develop your image-making skills." We also got shown other artists and designers works. We went to our chosen spaces from 12:30 - 4:00 where we had to create eight different works for the 8 tasks set. I found this challenging to begin with but with after some extra explanation was ok.

This was my first attempt at task two which was " focus on a single instance/object/ observation and represent it over and over in layers." This idea turned out terrible as it doesn't show different positions and movement of people's hands.

For tasks three, five and six which consisted of shading, indigenous colour landscapes and documenting a habit. I think the documenting a habit worked well however, could of gone into more detail. The shading task I found ok and think it worked well and the indigenous colour landscape was ok but confusing so may need more practice.
