My madder coloured apron dress, over a woad coloured dress based on findings from Hedeby. The cap is based on the silk- and wool caps found in York and Dublin. Hand sewn by me, with waxed linen thread. The drinking vessel is from Birka.
tamiart: Boudicca, Celtic warrior queen of the Iceni people of Eastern England. After the Romans took their land, stripped her, flogged her and raped her daughters, she led a rebellion against them, destroying several cities and armies in the process. Badass.
Traditional festive costume from the central district of the Balıkesir province. Dating: 1925-1950. The trousers and long-sleeved vest in striped silk, and the velvet jacket are embroidered (‘golden’ thread in ‘kordon tutturma’ technique/applied cord).
