Westgate
Burnley was a garrison town and these are some of the barracks on Clifton Street, off Westgate, before demolition. A view overlooking Burnley Barracks railway station, with the Westgate road bridge over the Leeds-Liverpool Canal readily visible and still with us. Virtually all the buildings to the left of the bridge have been demolished, as have the modern Trafalgar flats which are visible on the skyline on the extreme right. The mill and square tower, however, will be familiar to…
"Brickmakers Arms" (Pub) 60 Yorkshire Street, Burnley, Lancashire BB11 3BT
A BURNLEY pub which has served Clarets fans for more than 100 years is calling last orders for the final time tomorrow. Businessman Kaiser Aziz has bought the Brickmakers Arms, in Yorkshire Street, in a deal thought to be worth more than £70,000. Town Centre
This picture gives some indication of the extent of redevelopment in Burnley centre. The white flat top building still remains and is recognisable as Burton’s building. The building site is bounded by St. James Street and Bridge Street, with the former Webster’s shop on the extreme left. A readily recognisable view which shows, on the right, some of the fine buildings which were demolished. This is the junction of Manchester Road and St. James Street with Bridge Street opposite Manchester…

Accrington Road
Two views of the main road into Burnley from Accrington and Blackburn. This is Cog Lane below Accrington Road, where it dipped under the railway bridge. The houses on the right have been demolished, as has the distictive Yatefield Mill in the background. For a period before closure it was occupied by Brooke Bond. A sad sight and proof of demolition; the end of Yatefield Mill. This notable off-licence stood at the corner of Accrington Road and Cog Lane. All the shops, the houses behind on Cog…
Padiham Road
This is Padiham Road at its junction with Accrington Road, Trafalgar Street and Westgate, with John Watts clock visible in the background. This part of Padiham Road is now known as Westway and the shops have been demolished. Another view of this junction, showing the demolished shops. The pharmacy business of J. A. Barlow stood at the junction of Padiham Road and Accrington Road and had a splendid display of glass jars, containing various coloured liquids. This is Padiham Road at its…
