The Auto Log fell in February of 1917. Two years after the tree had fallen, the park built a road so that motorists could drive their vehicles on this giant sequoia tree. Today, you can visit this historic area on foot. The wood cannot withstand the weight of present time vehicles and the parks no longer encourage these sorts of activities.
