I highly recommend using distilled water on spider plants if you have chlorinated water with fluoride.  They hate the chemicals.  They don't need much watering and the distilled water is cheap. :)

Spider Plant Soil - well drained soil. Light - bright, indirect year round. Temp. - 55* to 65* year round. Watering - water well but do not allow plants to become too soggy (root rot). They prefer to dry out some between waterings. Feed - 2x a month if in high light and 1x every 3 months in med. light with liquid houseplant fertilizer.   Tips-Prune occasionally by cutting back to the base. Repot - only when the large, fleshy roots are highly visible and watering is difficult.
