British publisher SelfMadeHero earlier today announced its publishing plans for the first few months of 2014. They include a biography of painter Vincent van Gogh by Dutch artist Barbara Stok, [the second in their Art Masters series]
I thrilled to van Gogh when I was young, but w/ snobbery of the insecure tyro aesthete, I took to disdaining him for his popularity. Art that wasn’t difficult couldn’t be serious. In fact, there is no end of difficulty in van Gogh—his own, surmounted. I came back to him not just cos I tired of resisting his talent. It was the value of joy, irrespective of happiness n intellectual pride. All good art teaches some variant of that consoling n humbling truth. Van Gogh is its saint.
The English version of ‘Vincent’ by Barbara Stok has been published! One of the reviews we love: http://curiosityofasocialmisfit.blogspot.co.uk/2014/02/vincent-graphic-novel-review.html What is your opinion about this graphic novel?
