This week: WHY? Why should you start? Why should you persist? Why should you quit? Why "why?" is my favorite question. And more. If you're wondering "how is this related to trampoline?" There's only one way to find out. Starting now....

Today is the National Day of Unplugging and I admit that I wrestled a bit with whether to skip a week of my show to honor that. I mean it's not like anyone would notice. Except I would notice. I don't yet feel firmly grounded in my ability to overcome resistance to broadcasting live video to allow myself that excuse however valid it may be. On the other hand my ability to unplug is firmly entrenched. (If anything I could probably use more plugging in at times... see: my not logging into…

One truism I've learned from circus: the antidote to fear is not bravery. It is not courage. It is not gratitude. And it is not love. All of those are worthy and important emotions but in the face of what I call "organic fear" when your fight-flight-freeze response is actually warranted the only antidote to fear is TRUST. I could write a book on this (others have) but today I'm sharing one quick story about the big mistake I made in trying to cultivate self-trust with a new skill and the…

What's the role of a great coach? This one has been on my mind recently. I have noticed a difference in how I progress in my trampoline and trapeze training as compared to other areas of my life and business. Even in moments when I don't necessarily see major progress I always feel like I'm growing; I feel like I'm on the path. So as I do I looked to model success in one area and translate it to another area. I evaluated my circus life to extract the key things that my coaches in this…

Something to think about as you plan for 2016. Or as you don't. January 1 is a pretty arbitrary day to start things. It's just another day. Your new year can begin whenever you want it to begin.

Today's (super quick) episode is for you if: you currently feel stuck in some area of your life or business (or you have felt stuck in the past) all the typical high-achiever advice isn't working for you or you want a better way you're open to a new way of thinking and doing I've been sick all week and just coming off the Inman Connect conference so my voice is almost non-existent. But that's not an excuse not to practice; it's a reason to adapt. This will be short and powerful.

I had something completely different planned for today's show and then my amazing coach Roger decided to extend our session and whip out the fun. And you know what? Sometimes you just gotta go with what life gives you. I've been doing circus for about 14 years. Sometimes in the push to progress I forget that this started out simply as something fun to do. Circus life checks a lot of boxes: Great workout Great source of life lessons Catalyst for personal growth Origin of many of my…

As I was considering what wisdom to share in Episode 22(!) of my experimental show I had a thought that I could easily share on the topic of "how to do things even when you don't really feel like it." Yesterday I was hit with that sniffly thing that's been going around and as a result I'm exhausted and unfocused. And isn't it enough that I went to the gym and then came to Brooklyn for a 9 am trampoline practice? I hear a voice that says: it's not like people really watch it so who would…

Earlier today: my first swim in over 2 months and the earliest I've EVER gotten to the pool. I debunked some limiting stories I had been telling myself around that stories that were supported by cold hard facts. Then AFTER my swim I made it to the 7:30 am Sun Celebs yoga class at Laughing Lotus. I'm still amazed that I pulled this off. No matter what else did or did not happen today this happened. I made this happen. I got out of bed and to the pool. I got out of the pool in time to…

In the world of personal development no concept is held as greater truth than the idea that to grow we must "push outside our comfort zone." ... Today I'm going to challenge this sacrosanct premise. I'm going to share with you how you can grow within your comfort zone and how this actually leads to more sustainable growth. ... This topic is so foundational to how we train on trampoline; I can't believe I haven't covered it yet because the metaphor I came up with to explain this is by far one…

I lost my jacket on the way to trampoline practice this morning. Yes on the way. And that's not even the most distressing thing that happened before 9 am today. So today's lesson was pretty much a gimme from the start. Letting go is more of a trapeze thing than a trampoline skill but I'm not splitting hairs on this. It's all circus and that's pretty much the theme of my life. But after trampoline practice I got immersed in a conversation that distracted me from my weekly Periscope…

Clearly I'm doing something right. Clients came into NYC for less than 24 hours. They want to see me not because they needed something from me but because we enjoy spending time together. After a quick lunch at Eataly we parted ways as they headed to the airport. Before I had made it 3 blocks (and I walk fast even by NYC standards) I received a WhatsApp voice note apologizing for having to cut our time short. Then I received this. And the feeling is mutual. So much for them. They remind me…
