Nottingham's oldest shop. Somehow East has survived in an early 16th century jettied building, alongside its Victorian neighbours. It is interesting that the pubs all make erroneous claims to their antiquity while East just modestly occupies these ancient premises. Until the mid nineteenth century there were many jettied timber framed houses along Bridlesmith Gate: this, at number 11, is now the only survivor.

Grove Tavern, Queen's Bridge Road, Meadows, 1973 The Grove Tavern on the corner of Queen's Bridge Road and Queen's Grove. The latter (to the right here) was a cul-de-sac of terraced dwellings almost entirely surrounded by industry. The art deco style pub had been built by the Nottingham Brewery Company in 1937 to replace an earlier structure. By June 2011, Queen's Grove had been demolished only a stub of road giving access to commercial premises, & the pub renamed the Vat & Fiddle
