While supporters of the legislation reform applaud the reunification of families, the legislation’s detractors caution against “chain migration,” which would bring even more new, low-skilled workers into the country.

A recent poll of American voters reports that the country is still divided over the top priority in immigration issues. 43 percent of voters say securing the U.S. border is most important, while 41 percent think that dealing with illegal immigrants already in the country should be the top priority. These views remain virtually unchanged from numbers two years ago.
