Rare 1830’s child’s calico dress w original scalloped leg cuffs

Grand Duchesses Vera and Olga of Russia.  They were two daughters of Grand Duke Nikolaevich of Imperial Russia and his wife Grand Duchess Alexandra, a princess of Saxe-Altenburg.   They are dressed here for a very elaborate social occasion in ruffles, ruffles, and more ruffles.

A child's (bambino) brocade dress, 1732-1819. A large centrally placed flower on rose ground draws the eye. Information supplied by #Snowshill notes: It is unlined but the hem and the sleeves are faced with apricot silk. Neck opening and hem edge trimmed with gilt lace. The fabric is French (transitional 1720s-1730s) with garment constructed early 18thc. Ecclesiastical costume (?) From www.NationalTrustCollections.org.uk
