Oscar Wilde- 1882. Was born in 1854 in Ireland,  he became one of London's most popular playwrights in the early 1890s. Beginning in 1888, Wilde entered a seven-year period of furious creativity, during which he produced nearly all of his great literary works. Wilde produced several great plays—witty, highly satirical comedies of manners that nevertheless contained dark and serious undertones.
