In an unusual twist, I actually make this recipe exactly as it is described and I would not change a thing! Oh yes, I did change something. The second time I made this I left out the cloves as they seemed a bit overpowering. They were fantastic without them.
<p>The base of these sausages are black-eyed peas and mushrooms but the spice mix is different so it’s a mix of sweet and spicy. If you like the taste of maple in your sausage, you can add maple syrup but you will probably need to add more flour to compensate for the extra moisture. </p>
Vegan Sausage Patties½ c tvp ½ c boiling water ½ c whole wheat flour ¼ c oat or wheat bran 1 tbsp nutritional yeast 1 tbsp ground flax seeds, optional 1 tsp garlic powder ½ tsp crushed sage ½ tsp fennel seeds ¼ tsp black pepper ¼ tsp salt dash or two of cayenne, optional ¼ c water ½ tsp liquid smoke 3 tbsp soy sauce 1 tsp maple syrup ¼ tsp blackstrap molasses oil for frying
