Mysteriously Bright Black Holes Revealed by NASA Telescope

Blazing Black Holes Spotted in Spiral Beauty This new view of spiral galaxy IC also known as Caldwell includes data from NASA's Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array, or NuSTAR. IC 342 lies 7 million light-years away in the Camelopardalis constellation.

Throw Your Arms Around Me Credit: Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope/Coelum Galaxy NGC 2403 displays its spiral arms which contain hot young stars, colored blue. Also the arms contain star-formation regions, identifiable by an extended red glow.

NASA - Active Black Hole Squashes Star Formation / New data from the Herschel Space Observatory shows that galaxies with the most powerful, active, supermassive black holes at their cores produce fewer stars than galaxies with less.

This spectacular spiral galaxy is known to astronomers as Messier 83. Colloquially, it is also called the Southern Pinwheel due to its similarity to the more northerly Pinwheel galaxy Messier 101. NASAs Spitzer Space Telescope shows us, in spectacular detail, the infrared structure of what many think of as our own Milky Way galaxys smaller cousin.
