Dunnotar Castle - Stonehaven - William Wallace, Mary Queen of Scots, the Marquis of Montrose and King Charles II, all graced the Castle with their presence. It was at Dunnottar Castle that a small garrison held out against Cromwell’s army for eight months. By close of the 14th century, Dunnottar was firmly under Scottish control, under the Clan Keith.
An atmospheric picture of Duart castle - note the rather ornate chimney-pots, added in the 1900s restoration. n 1911, the ruined castle was purchased by the grandfather of today's chief, Sir Fizroy Maclean. He lavished money on the castle to restore it to its original condition: and the fruit of his labours is the site you can visit today.
