“Imagining politics as a form of war,” writes political scientist and philosopher Achilles Mbembe, “we must ask: What place is given to life, death, and the human body (in particular the wounded or slain body)? How are they inscribed in the order of power?” When it comes to presidential elections in the United States, the answer is “not much”—especially when those bodies are in faraway lands and wounded or slain not by “terrorists” but by state actors.
Romney ad accuses Obama campaign of using woman's death for 'political gain'
The Romney campaign took to the airwaves Friday to condemn an ad tying the Republican presidential candidate to a woman's death, releasing a TV ad of their own accusing President Obama's campaign of trying to "use the tragedy of a woman's death for political gain."
