Carob Tree-- very drought tolerant -- long tap root (water occasionally in summer for more pods), pods are high in protein, sugar, calcium. Need male and female. 6 yr old tree--> 5 pounds pods, 12 yr -->100 lbs in CA. No fertilizer necessary. Avoid waterlogging-- need well draining soil. Scale insect is only pest prob. 50 ft tall. Where to put it? replace pepper tree?

These are a crinum cross, maybe Crinum x powellii. Huge bulbs, lovely masses of flowers, does okay in drought, but fabulously with water and feeding. This example had adequate water for sure.
