This is the mayor's building. It's one of the most photographed buildings in all of Cuenca. One block from Parque Calderón, it looks like it's made from unpolished marble, but it's actually a type of rock found several miles to the east of the city.
Here's an uncommon view of Cuenca's new cathedral. Note the two flat-topped roofs, where domes should be. The architect miscalculated and they discovered that putting domes on would collapse the church!
