The Saffron Gatherer:   From our Akrotiri Collection which features frescos from the ancient Minoan City of Akrotiri on the island Santorini.  The woman with a shaved blue head is depicted in a field of crocuses. She is gathering the stamens with both hands. The Crocus grows even today on the Aegean islands and mainland Greece. Saffron, which is derived from the stamen of the crocus, has been used as a dye, a medicine, a spice and a perfume for centuries.

En Creta la serpiente tenía una connotación positiva, estaba relacionada con la mujer y la buena suerte –ya que era poco común ver una-. Para apartarse el cabello de la cara utilizaban una cinta. Normalmente se hacían una cola de caballo baja o bien rizaban un mechón encima de la oreja y lo dejaban caer hasta el cuello.

Akrotiri assembly.jpg Here's more of the confusing picture (called shipwreck fresco?). Walking men with hide shields. Walking women with colored skirts and white tops. (Maybe totally topless, unlike the Minoan norm of partially topless?) They look like they're stepping off the roof of a building. The tumbling men in the front are naked. (falling? drowning?)
