On March 11, 2011, horror unfolded in Japan as the Tsunami struck the island nation and wrecked havoc along the countrys north-eastern coast, washing away entire communities along the Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima prefectures.
Interferogram from 3-Sisters volcanic region. InSAR (Interferometric synthetic aperture radar). InSAR measures ground deformation using two of more synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images. This example of geodesy, and geodetic application, InSAR has applications for monitoring of natural hazards (ex. earthquakes, volcanoes and landslides), measuring land subsidence, and even surface water level assessments.
