Haydn's Symphony 94, 2nd mvmt. ~Ithaca College Chamber Orchestra, 2012. ~ Legend has it that Haydn had already given the downbeat to begin the movement when he noticed the snores of a front-row patron. He and his musicians continued with the little theme until the final chord. Haydn directed a sudden fortissimo, surprising the drowsy patron who jumped to his feet. Hence, the symphony became known as Haydn's "Surprise Symphony."

The piece deconstructs and re-mixes the original according to fMRI brain scans taken from three people listening to Beethoven's movement. Miranda's composition receives its premiere from Ten Tors Orchestra, as part of the Peninsula Arts Contemporary Music Festival, on Saturday 23 February 2013, in Plymouth.
