I made this on the stove, and used pork Italian sausages instead of turkey.  I added 1 full can of diced garlic and olive oil tomatoes and half a can of tomato paste and let it simmer away for about an hour.  Served on big Focaccia buns that were toasted.  Honestly - I wasn't sure how this would turn out but it was fantastic.  Full of flavour, and I will make this again.  Not sure I would even try it in the crockpot at this point!
