July 25, 1979, Madison Square Garden. It was billed as "The Return of KISS," presumably because they hadn't released a studio album in 2 years other than the 4th side of Alive 2 and their solo albums had come out the year before. It was the first concert I ever saw. It was quite an event. It was at the height of their popularity even though some fans were beginning to have their doubts as it was in support of a pretty floppy record, Dynasty. On this day, 32 years ago (May 20th, 1980) KISS release their 8th studio album (12th over all album) 'Unmasked'. When fans first heard of the title to the new upcoming album, everyone speculated KISS would be taking off their trademark makeup and showing their faces once and for all. This was not to be. On a sidenote, the band had actually considered taking off the makeup, for real, back in 1979, but were convinced by outsiders close to the band that it would be Rock 'n' Roll suicide.
