Use the short story, “The Black Cat” by American Gothic/Dark Romantic writer Edgar Allan Poe, to teach your students the elements of literary analysis, get them thinking deeply about the text, and provide opportunities for real-world connections via an actual newspaper article/activity detailing a similar crime.
Newspaper Book Report: Fiction & Non-Fiction Book Report Newspaper
Newspaper Book Report: Students read a fiction book or non-fiction book and then create the front page of a newspaper. I love to bring in sample real-life newspapers for students to look at. Some students have never seen a newspaper before!
Notation Features--love the authentic examples right on chart. Why? "To help you understand how to read the symbols in a song and turn them into sounds!" Could include staff, pitch, rhythm, lyrics, bar lines, repeat sign, meter (not too many or its overload!)
Comic creator is one of the many interactive writing activities that can be enjoyed by students from grade one to grade six. This is a great site for online activities as well as finding fun graphic organizers.
