Frida Kahlo in NY. Frida didn't choose just any dress as her trademark, she chose the traditional dress of the Tehuantepec Isthmus, a matriarchal society, uncommon in Mexican culture. She chose a fashion symbol of powerful Mexican women, and emulated this strength in her art and her life.
"The Frida Kahlo Museum in Mexico City has been transformed in a fashion time capsule not for the faint hearted. Kahlo’s home, the Blue House stored for years trunks full of the artist’s clothes, shawls, jewels and accessories and in 2012 they finally see the light of day 58 years after her death." --Swide.com (Thank you, Caitlyn, for pointing this out to me!)
