On April 10, 1952 film director Elia Kazan testified before the House Un-American Activities Committee, naming 15 of his former colleagues as members of the Communist Party. Earlier in the year, Kazan had admitted membership in the Communist Party from 1934 to 1936, and had refused to name any of his friends.

Elia Kazan born Elias Kazantzoglou, was a Greek-American director, producer, writer and actor, described by The New York Times as "one of the most honored and influential directors in Broadway and Hollywood history".

Set in New Orleans, the film tells the story of  Blanche (Vivien Leigh) who comes to visit her naive sister (Kim Hunter), who is pregnant  with an aggressive brute named Stanley (Marlon Brando). At first, Blanche appears to be a refined person but we learn that things are not right with her when she appears to have a type of mental breakdown & we learn  the shocking reason why.

Directed by Elia Kazan. With Vivien Leigh, Marlon Brando, Kim Hunter, Karl Malden. Disturbed Blanche DuBois moves in with her sister in New Orleans and is tormented by her brutish brother-in-law while her reality crumbles around her.

Elia Kazan (1909–2003) was an American director, producer, writer & actor, described by The New York Times as "one of the most honored & influential directors in Broadway & Hollywood history". Kazan became known as an "actor's director" because he was able to elicit some of the best performances in the careers of many of his stars. Under his direction, his actors received 21 Academy Award nominations & won nine Oscars. He won as Best Director for On the Waterfront (1954).
