During the heyday of CBS News in the 1960s and 1970s, he was often cited as "the most trusted man in America" after being so named in an opinion poll.

1st mention: "Hank's Got the Willies" when Hank called Peggy to say he was @ a BBQ @ Willie Nelson's house. Peggy, not believing him says, "Gee, I'd love to come Hank, but Ann Richards & I are doing our toenails." Then Willie gets on the phone & says, "I don't think so Peggy. I'm lookin' @ Ann Richards right now, & she's playin' tetherball with one of my roadies." Later, in the closing credits, you see Ann Richards beating a man @ tetherball while Hank & Willie play guitar in the foreground.
