“Art has been a saving grace,” states one veteran and participant in the National Veterans Creative Arts Festival. The 2017 NVCAF will be Oct. 23-30 in Buffalo, N.Y. Since 2000, the American Legion Auxiliary has been an NVCAF co-sponsor along with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. #AmericanLegionAuxiliary #HonorTheirService #HealingThroughArt #NVCAF https://alaforveterans.wordpress.com/2017/07/17/art-can-become-a-saving-grace-for-veterans/
Many of our nation’s veterans need assistance around their home. Elderly or limited-mobility veterans may not be able to take care of all their housekeeping requirements and would appreciate some extra help.
How you can help local veterans by planning a stand down
On any given evening in our country, veterans are homeless, and 9 percent of those are women, according to the U. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Here’s what it takes to plan a stand down as a one-day homeless veterans health fair.

Veteran finds her destiny in performing arts as a way to help others
Our military veterans are living textbooks of American history and are able to bring history to life in powerful ways. Veterans in Community Schools, an American Legion Family program embraced by members of the American Legion Auxiliary, brings history to life as local veterans tell students about their experiences in the military. Students gain firsthand knowledge from the one who lived the story they are telling.. #HonorTheirService #VeteransInCommunitySchools #AmericanLegionFamily…
Her own story to tell – how a veteran healed through creative writing
Jacqueline Kochinsky’s journey to National Veterans Creative Arts Festival (NVCAF) started decades ago Illinois. Kochinsky’s writing earned her a place at 2016 NVCAF, where she was a Therapeutic Arts Scholarship recipient in the creative writing division for her poem, “Decide to Be, Aim High.” #NVCAF #AmericanLegionAuxiliary #HonorTheirService #ArtTherapy https://alaforveterans.wordpress.com/2017/07/24/her-own-story-to-tell-how-a-veteran-healed-through-creative-writing/
Unique Valentine’s Day Gift Idea for Veterans
The Great American Grill at American Legion Post 119, Greenfield, Indiana.
ACTION ALERT - The American Legion sent a letter to U.S. Senate leadership, urging passage of S. 2193, the Caring for Our Veterans Act of 2017. The legislation would build on current community care programs by putting an end to arbitrary standards for when veterans may receive community care and by consolidating the disparate community care programs into one program.
Become an Advocate for our Veterans
The American Legion Family has a very strong legislative committee across the country that makes our voices heard on Capitol Hill. Every year, The American Legion sets a prioritized legislative agenda. #AmericanLegionAuxiliary members advocate for better care for our veterans in their communities across the country — and community letter-writing campaigns to local, state, and federal officials is an excellent way to do that. #LegionFamily #LegionStormsHill #ServiceNotSelf #Advocacy
