When Pan American Airways established the first transpacific commercial air service between North America and Asia in 1935, the airline and its flying boats captured the imagination of a generation. In 1936, Hollywood paid tribute to Pan Am’s achievement with the release of the Warner Brothers movie China Clipper, using the name of one of the airline’s famous Martin M-130 flying boats that became synonymous among the public with all of Pan Am’s early Pacific fleet.
