'Franco' by Cecilia Barandiaran-Sprot. Pastel on coloured paper 48x 36 cm Franco is the artist’s nephew who is a merchant seaman. Franco spends part of his free time at sea chatting online with friends and family, and the portrait was done from a black and white photograph taken on his computer while chatting on Skype in his cabin. The artist wanted to show Franco’s strength of character, his youth and the dramatic and lonely life of a seaman.
'Pondering Chimp' by Elaine Whiteside. The Pondering Chimp is a favourite piece of mine completed in July this year. The chimp's expression just appeals to the viewer, but what emotions is he portraying? Allow that question to run through your mind as you look deep into his soul. This artwork is 30x40cm, completed in Jaxell soft pastels and FC Pitt Pastel pencils on Claire Fontaine Pastelmat. Based on a photo of the same name by Scotch Macaskill, African Reference Photos. Permission granted.
