Explore Old Family Photos, Siblings and more!

Technically Edwardian rather than Victorian. Nevertheless, it's one of my favorite old family photos, partly because it's MY family. Those are my great grandparents and their children in 1905, with a couple more to come later. My mom's dad is the bashful blonde toddler sitting on the arm of his dad's chair. As was not uncommon in that era, five of my grandfather's siblings died of various causes before age 18. However, my grandfather lived into his 80s, and two of his sisters into their 90s.

Imperial Size Photograph of Two Armed Cowboys ca 1890s - Two unidentified cowboys sitting in a studio with no identified photographer. This is a great image of two armed cowboys one with Winchester Rifle, the other sitting with holstered pistol and both wearing leather chaps, and cowboy hats. The man on the right has a small whip attached to his suspenders.

Photography and modern medicine were born about the same time. The presentation by Louis Jacques Mande' Daguerre of the daguerreotype (1839), came seven years before the first demonstration of general anasthesia. Early photographers, many of whom were also physicians, documented medical practices. Photography became not only a device to record and teach, but, with the discovery in 1895 of the x-ray by physicist Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen, a major diagnostic tool as well.

My Daguerreotype Boyfriend - WHERE EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY MEETS EXTREME HOTNESS -- I can't decide if this is creepy or what, but the concept is pretty cool. PS. This hottie here went mad and ended his days in an asylum :(
