Use large, still moist wine corks as dry ones will crumble.  Dig a hole from the top (penknife, screwdriver) and place a seed in the hole. Cover with soil. Succulents work well as they are compact and easy to maintain.  Water with an eyedropper regularly or dip the bottom of the cork in a bowl of water.  They can be lined up together in a shallow dish or you can glue magnets to the cork if you want to display them on your fridge.  Repot when the plant starts getting too big.
