Harlon Block - Born in Yorktown, Texas. He is best known as one of the six men photographed raising the flag on Iwo Jima. Tragically, a month later, he was badly wounded by a mortor blast as he and his squad were attacking toward Nishi Ridge.

US Marine Lt Mitchell Paige, recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor. Lt Mitchell earned the medal for his breaking a Japanese regimental assault on Guadalcanal singlrhandedly. He survived and fought in Korea as well. He died at age 85 in
