Peter Bis, a homeless man known by the Capitol Hill community for his friendly hellos and "no skinny dipping" quips from his perch under a tree on the corner of Second Street and Massachusetts Avenue Northeast, died early this morning. 8/16/12 He took pride in the neighborhood he called home, protecting those on his block from people he thought were up to no good, and in turn, neighbors in the area would provide him with money, clothes and food.
Not forgotten: Homeless woman who froze to death loved teaching, helping others Pamela Wallace, who was homeless, died Dec. 31 of exposure to sub-zero temperatures in her camp near the Humboldt River. Her partner tried to resuscitate her, according to interviews with law enforcement directly after she died. It was 13-below that night.
On a busy stretch of 7th Street in the Elizabeth neighborhood Thursday night, William Larry Major stepped into the road, was struck by a car and died. Almost instantly, Charlotte Facebook and Twitter accounts were awash in messages honoring the man known to many as "Chilly Willy." William Larry Major was 58 years old. 10/24/12
Death toll for homeless found on Denver streets nears 700 since 2000 - The Denver Post 12/4/12 "Porcupine is one of 677 homeless people who ended up in the Denver coroner's office in the past dozen years. Most arrived there as a consequence of drug and alcohol abuse. They came in body bags of all sizes. One died just minutes after birth; one was 90 years old."
