Brazilian Marcelo Lehninger (1980) is Music Director of the New West Symphony in LA, and was awarded in 2014 the Helen M. Thompson Award for Emerging Music Directors. He studied violin and piano. He holds a Master's degree from the Conductors Institute at NY's Bard College, where he studied conducting and composition. He is the son of pianist Sônia Goulart and violinist Erich Lehninger. Recently he concluded an appointment as Conductor of the Boston Symphony.
