Her first film for Cutts was Woman to Woman (1923). The film was co-written by Cutts and Alfred Hitchcock who also stood in as assistant director. Compson would star in a number of notable films such as The Docks of New York (1928) directed by Josef von Sternberg before entering the sound era.
