Bräuer receives Fulbright-Saastamoien Foundation Award to teach and conduct research at the University of Eastern Finland in Kuopio, Finland, for six months. A microbiologist, Bräuer will study a domain of microorganisms called Archaea that play a part in methane and carbon dioxide production in peat.

Dr. John Whitehead, professor and chair of Appalachian State University’s Department of Economics, has been awarded $95,303 by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) to conduct a socioeconomic study of Atlantic menhaden commercial fisheries.
