The Empire Movie Theater in downtown Minot, North Dakota. When it opened in 1954, it was considered plush. The marquee was illuminated by 480 light bulbs. When the multiplex opened at the new mall years later, the Empire was tragically torn down for a parking lot. The only other theater, Oak Park, was sold to a church. Gone were the days of the majestic giant screens in favor of small theaters with screens the size of your average RV. Sigh!
