August 2, 1862: Letter from James E. Love to his fiancee Molly. James says he is happy to hear that Molly has visited “Old Shaws,” a reference to what is known today as the Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis. View looking across Shaw's Garden toward the Conservatory (Missouri Botanical Garden) in 1906.

During the war, William C. Wilson (Molly's brother) and his family lived in this area of St. Louis, not far from the Campbell House, and attended the First Presbyterian Church, shown in the center of this image.
