India - Jaipur. The Amber Fort. The fort itself was constructed 1588-1710. The Hall of Public Audiences is an elegant colonnaded space with views down to the exquisite gardens on an island in the lake below the ramparts. The Maharajah’s Mirrored Palace was on one side and the Womens’ palace on the other. Sheesh Mahal is the Hall of Private Audiences. Onwards to the 1581 Man Singh Palace and explored the endless passageways, stairs, rooms and cells of the Zenami Deorhi – Ladies Quarters.
India - Jaipur. Palace of the Wind. The Palace of the Wind with its 365 windows is beautiful, but it's a mere façade to allow women of the court to view the city's street life unobserved. Jaipur was designed in 1727 as Asia’s first planned city and now has a population of 3.5 million. The Maharajas of Jaipur created a lake for the city and built an island palace.
