The Shire Oak or Skyrack to give it, the name from Anglo Saxon times, whether this was the original Shire oak from that time or a later oak from Norman to Angevin times is not certain, but it was the meeting place of the Wapentake of Elmete. This photo is from circa 1900.
One of the original Leeds Trolleybuses. Leeds and Bradford were the first cities in the UK to introduce trolleybuses, in 1911. They were phased out in the late 1920s, however a new trolleybus scheme for the city has just been approved and you can expect to see them back on the streets of Leeds from 2018!
