The Libraries’ spring 2007 exhibit highlights a collection of photographs of the ethnic Highlanders of Vietnam recently donated to the Southeast Asian Archive. The traditional culture of these ethnic groups came under threat during the Vietnam War and has been largely decimated in the years since due to forced relocation policies of the current government.
The interplay between word and image has been an integral part of Mexican art and culture for centuries. The Libraries fall 2002 exhibition, Beauty and Meaning: Art and Poetry in the Book Arts of Mexico, presented a sampling of works produced by book artists in Mexico during the past 30 years, emphasizing the books’ inherently collaborative nature as both books and works of art, and the quality of their craftsmanship.

The UCI Libraries announces the opening of an exciting new exhibit called From Bean to Brew: Coffee and Culture. From Bean to Brew highlights the adoption of coffee as a widely consumed beverage and spans areas covering coffee production, the marketing of coffee, and the modern economics of coffee. The exhibit also showcases coffee culture in Orange County.
The War Within: Dissent During Crisis in America was the November 2006 exhibit. Freedom of speech, embodied in the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, is a cornerstone of our existence as a free society, and to many Americans, it is the most valued of our freedoms. The right to express opinions publicly and openly on all sides of an issue is central to our way of life.
The Libraries' spring 2002 exhibit, Derrida/Translating/Derrida, celebrated the extraordinary scholarly career of Jacques Derrida, one of the pre-eminent philosophers and theorists of our time and one of UCI's most renowned faculty members.
