Gia is an orphan. Her father died when she was 3 and her mother left a year later to marry another man and never returned. She now lives with her uncle and his family. Every day, Gia walks 2 hours each way to attend school. Her uncle doesn't let her board at the school because she is needed to work back home. Going to school provides Gia with a meal and short-term relief from working.
Angelino from Dili on Timor-Leste makes his living by shifting sand into trucks for use in construction sites around Dili. He hopes to get all this shifted before the rains come and the river fills up.
